Organic Gardening: Spider Mites

If your plant, shrub, or tree’s leaves become filled with little yellow dots and silk-like webbing, that means your plant may be infested with spider mites.

Spider mites are tiny (just 1/30th of an inch), reddish, yellow, or pale green with fine hairs, and they live on the undersides of leaves.  Spider mites love hot, dry weather, and they feed by sucking on the sap from leaves, which damages plant cells. If the infestation is allowed to continue, leaves will turn brown and fall off from the plant.  The plant’s growth will be stunted, and eventually the plant may die.
