If you love the sight of a beautiful and thriving garden but you don’t have a lot of time to spare (and perhaps not as much prior gardening knowledge as you would like), then what you need is a simple low maintenance garden with a minimum of muss and fuss.
So, how do you make this happen?
The first thing you need to do is to figure out how much time, effort, energy and money you realistically can put into building a garden. Remember that you don’t have to have a huge, expansive area in order to create a lovely garden. Small gardens can be every bit as beautiful as large ones.
Suggestions:
-Choose plants that are appropriate for your climate. Take the seasons and the average temperatures into account. You also must consider the kind of soil in which you will be planting.
-Purchase plants that are hardy and can thrive in a variety of temperatures. In other words, no wimpy plants! Speak to a representative at the nursery in your area for more information.
-If grass does not want to grow in select areas of your garden, then use groundcover instead.
-Shrubs are very easy to grow if you purchase ones that are healthy to begin with.
-Annuals must be replaced every year, but there are plenty that require very little maintenance.
-Some plants are more prone to diseases and also to being attacked by pests. Do your research and find out which ones these are and then avoid them.
-Group all plants of the same family together in your garden. This means that you can tend to these plants all at once in the same way.
-Keep in mind a very important rule of thumb for all green thumbs- know your plants. By knowing your plants well you can give them each the TLC they need. For example, the plants that are sun worshippers should be planted where they can soak up the rays. On the other hand, the plants that need shade should reside in an area that gets lots of shade regularly.
