Take Your Garden From Drab to Fab in No Time at All!

grassIf your garden lacks color, personality or is just mundane, then you need to take steps to get rid of the drab and bring in the fab. Even if you only have a minimum amount of space for a garden, a small garden is better than no garden at all. For example, figure out how much light finds its way into your garden space on a daily basis. Once you have determined this, select plants that can thrive with the amount of sunlight they are afforded.

If your garden is tiny, then you should keep the colors very basic and simple but play up textures in every way that you can. For example, use greenery as a backdrop for your garden, and then add colors such as red and some yellow for an interesting contrast.

A flat space is good but so is having some larger trees. To make the garden more pleasing to the eye, consider adding décor accents to the garden or a stone riser wall.

Consider your garden as a whole. Construct a garden plan keeping your plants, grasses and ground cover in mind. Arrange all of these garden elements in a manner that provides color, height and texture.

A fountain can add a little extra to your garden. Choose a small one, and provide it with a solid rock base. A slightly raised platform for the fountain is best. Place it in a quiet corner of your garden in order to allow its tranquility to work its magic.

Place stones in your garden to make walking easier and especially in the corners of the garden for hard-to-reach spots. Stepping stones serve to break up the cover on the ground. They also add depth to an otherwise shallow garden.

The best ground cover for a garden is low maintenance. For example, ivy has a way of spreading rapidly in order to cover up empty spaces (when you think back to your childhood and the fairy tale “Sleeping Beauty” you should remember this simple fact about ivy very well). Periwinkle also makes an excellent ground cover because it covers a sufficient area all at once, and it means that weeding is something you will not spend a great deal of time doing. Perennials are very hardy and require very little attention, which is also good news.
